"Scooch"ing right off of the world stage...

If you are looking for evidence of Britain's decline into international irrelevancy in the face of rising world powers like India, China, and Brazil and re-emerging nations such as Germany and Japan, one would need to look no further than their entry into Eurovision 2007, Scooch (click for youtube link). Yup, that is what the country that brought us parliamentary democracy, capitalism, and Sympathy for the Devil decided would be best to represent the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland before the world.

Maybe it is time to bring back the lend-lease program. Only this time, instead of sending boats and rations, we send them Christina Aguilera or the kids from High School Musical or something.

You've completely missed the point of our cunning master plan !

It costs so much now to host the damn show (over 3 hours of pan European (oh and somehow Israel too) interactive live tv)) that the BBC would be bankrupted by it if we won.

So now we get all the dubious fun and benefits of taking part in this surreal exhibition of musical madness without any of the risk of actually winning.

.........or is that sour grapes ?

That is one of the finest compliments that I have ever received.

I try to keep up with affairs on both sides of the pond and, honestly, I would one day love to live in Wales (keeping my American citizenship and residency up for tax reason, as I have no interest in subsidizing agriculture in Slovenia).

The UK will never win again. Nobody has anything to gain by voting for us. We will just have to learn to live with this. Sigh.
