Stick it to the men.

The AP is reporting that Friends of Coal, the lobbying group best known for tacky bumper stickers and artificial football "rivalries," is pissed off at Kroger for selling gift cards that give 5% back to the Ohio Valley Environmental Coalition.

Well, hell, if they hadn't made a stink about it, I would have never known. Click here to find out how you can support OVEC in their struggle against mountaintop removal AND have yet another reason to avoid shopping at WalMart.

I like Walmart.
Cheaper than Krogers, and a much better selection.

Thanks for dropping by, Larry. Good to hear from new folks...

Depends on the Krogers.

The two in Huntington kinda suck, but the newly-expanded one in Barboursville seems to have more and better stuff than the Super WalMarts in the area.

As for cheaper, that is only the case if you don't use coupons and ignore the circular. If you shop for sale items at Kroger while clipping manufacturers coupons, Kroger comes out about $5-$10 per trip. Kroger doubles coupons, while WalMart doesn't.

Yes, but Kroger is much less harmful to America than Wal-Mart.

First of all, thanks for stopping by. Dissenting voices are always welcome.

On to your comment, though. The last time that I checked, OVEC wasn't blowing up mountains, poisoning watersheds, cracking foundations, or replacing 100s of underground coal miners with 10 or 20 heavy equipment operators, but that is missing the point. I'm actually quite glad that y'all brought it up, as it has likely doubled or even tripled publicity for the program.

Chris its obvious you believe all of ohvec double talk about deep versus surface mining. If you look closer you will see they intend to stop ALL mining period.Check out their web site, also check out coal river moutain watch if you dont believe me. As for blasting damage ,if you believe ohvec or crmw I wont be able to convince you otherwise as it seems they allready have you convinced .I live in a mining area and its not as bad as they would have you believe, but with their spin on it I can see why you believe otherwise.

thanks for posting.... i've seen the damage wreaked on our beautiful state by Coal and I have also seen the bulllying tactic Coal COmpanies use to anyone who dissents. i'm glad Kroger is not giving in to the bullying and I will support them because of it.

it IS as bad as OVEC says! go up to Larry Gibson's place on Kayford Mountain and see for yourself. or go check out what's coming out of the taps of people living below the mining site. ask water biologists/specialists, doctors, and citizens affected. take the people's word for it that aren't profiting from coal....

i look forward to a better, healthier, and safer west virginia for my son b/c of the work that OVEC and other concerned groups are doing....

Mama You have every right to support krogers decision as I have every right to boycott them. In the matter of believing anything ovec or crmw has to say ,I have no respect for any group who have known nonkeywrenchers on their staff. Monkeywrenching=Environmental warfare thru SABOTOGE! AS far as Larry Gibson is concerned he sitting on a gold mine and he knows it to the tune of about 450 million

Anonymous,

First of all, spell check is your friend. I mean we all make typos, but goddamn.

Second, one needs only to drive threw the blast zones to see what MTR does to our mountains.

Furthermore, OVEC could operate out of Moscow for all I care- they are taking a stand against a practice which simultaneously destroys the environment and breaks the back of organized labor. For that, OVEC deserves an applause.

Third, how much does Friends of Coal pay these days to send out internet trolls amongst WV bloggers? Just curious.

anonymous... just to let you know, what you said about Larry Gibson makes him even more of a hero. instead of selling out to Coal, despite threats, intimidation, and the chance to make millions, he's put the last 50 acres of his ancestral homeland that hasn't been ravaged by MTR and put it in a land trust so that Coal can't touch it and future generations can get a chance to glimpse a little bit of the former majesty of kayford mountain.

and you are right, we each have a right to dissent. but coal doesn't think so. at a public hearing, this little 5'7" mama was elbowed, jeered at, winked at, pushed, etc. by big coal thugs twice my size, just for speaking my opinion.

I have no idea who the latter is.

Look, no sarcasm was intended. I just don't have any desire to engage knuckleheads on either side of the proverbial aisle here in the cyberworld- which is why I'm just saying, goodnight and take care.
